Seven Crucial Questions for...Brian McCracken: In The Red
1. From The Dark: Who's in, or has participated, in In The Red? Brian: Mostly me. My first obscure Audio Tape Album was recorded by Mike Willie in Flagstaff, Arizona. My first full length CD (Self-Titled) was supposed to have some guitar solos from a friend but never worked out. So by default, I have written everything, played every instrument, recorded whole albums, mixed and promoted all of my music. 2. FTD: Where are you from? Brian: I was born in Minnesota and brought to Arizona after 6 months. Since then I have been in Phoenix, Mesa, Sedona & Flagstaff, Arizona. Most of my youth was wasted in Mesa and my college years in Flagstaff. 3. FTD: When did you form ITR? Brian: Before the name "In The Red" was born, I wrote several songs and recorded then on 4-track audio tape. I have mixed a few of them into digital form and plan to re-record a few in newer albums. So the actual year In The Red began was about 1999. Since then I have produced 2 albums and 2 bands. I knew my Thrash Metal would never be played on the radio so I created a Punk/Rock band called "So And So". My second album is not full length, but instead a split album with In The Red and So and So. 4. FTD: Why did you start ITR? Brian: I have participated in several bands since High School and really dreaded playing shows and working with others. I enjoy working with people but sometimes they are not as committed to a project. I also found that my relationship with Christ suffered because I was only focused on the band and music. I decided to start writing music myself and learn new instruments. All the while my focus would be on Christ. My goal is to use my God given talents to create exciting passionate music for people to enjoy and worship Jesus. Through the process, I grow closer to Christ. 5. FTD: Where can fans hear your music? Brian: Wow, um... I have uploaded my music to about 30 different websites that promote unsigned bands and "local" music. 6. FTD: Is there a new album in works? Brian: I wish! No really! I pray for the day I can record my next album in my own Home Studio. I have at least 20 In The Red songs and 10 So And So songs to record. Everything is done except lyrics. At one point I was rehearsing my lyrics and left my notes at Church. When I went back they were gone. Someone must have really liked my words. So I have been patiently waiting 7+ years for the day I can build a studio and get started. I continually rehearse on drums & guitars... 7. FTD: What is your message to the world? Brian: Jesus Christ is ALIVE! He lives in our hearts, He lives in God's Word and is continually intervening in our lives. Do not be afraid to use culture to glorify God. Our generation thinks anything "secular" is sinful, but God made everything to be enjoyed... So use culture in a God way instead of a sinful way. Play your heavy metal, video games & movies to praise God! |
